After completion of your Bachelors in civil engineering, you can do any of the following:

  • Do your M Tech and then can join in academics or research work
  • Apply for civil engineer jobs as a graduate and start working in government departments, Public Sector Units (PSUs), Private companies, MNCs. For PSUs, candidates with GATE scores are eligible.
  • You can appear for State Graduate and Technical Entrance Exams or State Public Services Exam for government jobs
  • You can also prepare and appear for UPSC Examinations, IES (Indian Engineering Services), CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) exam for better civil engineer jobs to work under the Central Government
  • If interested, you can also join India army, Indian air force or Indian navy under different technical entry schemes.

For better job prospects

Nowadays, most employers look for additional skills along with qualification for civil engineer jobs. So, if you have Project Management skills, if you know Visual Basic (VB), Engineering Design, MS Project, knowledge on Primavera and other civil engineering software, there are better job prospects for a civil engineer. It is also seen that compared to other branches of engineering, civil engineering is one branch which has lesser unemployment rate.
